Hinduism is one of the world's oldest religions, originally in the Indian subcontinent.
It's a complex and diverse belief system with various texts, practices, and philosophies.
Some of the basics of Hinduism:
- Hindu Pantheon: Hinduism encompasses a vast array of gods and goddesses, with belief in a single supreme reality called Brahman, which manifests in multiple deities such as Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Lakshmi, Saraswati, and many others.
- Dharma: This refers to the moral and ethical duties and responsibilities that individuals must fulfill according to their social roles, stages of life, (ashramas) and personal attributes (varnas).
- Karma: The law of cause and effect which states that every action has consequences, either in this life or next.
It's believed that one's actions (karma) determine their destiny (samsara) in future lives. - Reincarnation: The cycle of birth, death and rebirth (reincarnation), where the soul (atman) transmigrates from one body to another based on karma until it achieves liberation (moksha).
- Moksha: The ultimate goal of Hinduism, liberation from cycle of reincarnation and union with Bahman, achieved through self-realization, spiritual knowledge and detachment from wordly desires.
- Yoga and meditation: Practices like yoga and meditation are integral part of Hindu spiritual practices, aimed at achieving self-awareness, mental clarity and union with devine.
